Protection.

Are you spiritually protected?

You will often hear me say I fear the living more than I do the spirit world. And to be honest, I find that to be very true.

But one thing that doesn’t mean… is that I move around without a protection ritual.

If you haven’t done this before, or even considered it, just hear me out.

For many of us on this spiritual journey, we are classed as empaths. And basically, empaths are those who feel or connect to energy deeply. So often we feel things well before our brain registers that what we’re feeling isn’t ours and that it’s someone else’s energy.

Once we become aware of this, it allows us to start a practice so we aren’t affected every time we walk into a room, a space or a crowd.

This practice is called protection.

Now I really encourage you to experiment with this and find what resonates with you personally because that’s what will work best for you.

I’ll share some of the teachings I’ve been shown and what I’ve found works for me.

For a bit of backstory, I grew up without a strong religious influence, except for my grandparents on my father’s side who were very involved in the Anglican church. We didn’t practise this at home, but my sister and I would go to Sunday school here and there.

I do remember enjoying it, and still to this day, the power I feel when entering a church is palpable.

The biggest thing I took from that was the power of prayer.

That has stayed with me my whole life and is still present today.

So for me, before I connect to spirit, whether that’s for readings, events or any kind of spiritual work, I will say the Lord’s Prayer in my head. I always add the intention that everything comes through for the highest good of my clients.

I also visualise a white light around me, creating protection and purification.

For many people, physical tools are part of their practice. Things like sage, palo santo or salt. Some call in Archangels (Archangel Michael is a popular one for protection), others call in totem animals or loved ones in spirit.

There are so many ways to do this.

And honestly, I don’t believe it matters what you choose. The most important thing is that you create a practice and allow it to become second nature.

One technique I learnt through training with the amazing Lisa Williams was to visualise a thick glass wall around you, including a roof.

You do this before going into places with lots of people, so shopping centres, concerts or anywhere there’s a lot of energy. I personally use this in those situations and I find it really helps me not take on other people’s energy.

If you struggle with visualisation, another one I absolutely love is working with nature.

Go outside and call out to the trees. Ask which one would like to work with you for protection. You’ll feel drawn to one and you must trust that. Go to it, place your hand on it or hug it and ask for protection.

If you practise this enough, you’ll start to recognise the feeling the tree gives you. Then you can call on that same energy of protection anytime, even when you’re not physically with the tree.

There may also be times where your usual protection doesn’t feel like enough and if that happens, don’t hesitate to layer your practices.

There is no right or wrong way.

What you feel is enough.

My role is simply to encourage you to trust what is already within you.

As always,

With love and gratitude,

Tonia
